Is this having your cake and eating it too? The Flames get to free fall to a better draft position, the games are fun to watch other than the odd stinker, and we’re seeing a style of hockey that fans in Calgary rarely ever get treated with.

That was the case until the last few games. A week ago, drafting fifth was a possibility. Now they need to get lucky to stay in the top 10.

Hopefully Klapka was recalled to see if he can play goal at an NHL level.

Down to the last game. Win then Flames get 10th, loose they get 9th. Seattle wins Flames loose then Flames get 8th. Tij is definate possibility unless the lottery goes in their favor and move up a few spots, then what do you do?

If Tij becomes nothing more than a 2nd liner is it a failure on the flames for taking the son of a Flames legend instead of taking a higher ranked guy? Would there be too much pressure on the kid being drafted to the town his dad was an all-star in? Doan's kid is doing OK but how would it translate in a Canadian market?

Flames shouldn't draft him unless he falls to them with their 2nd pick, or else he is set for failure. Most fans would expect his dad's peak results in his early years. And that's not likely to happen.

Final rankings have him 9th, right where the Flames pick. Why would there be too much pressure? He’s grown up as Jerome’s son his whole playing career, no pressure. Traded back to his hometown, no pressure. I don’t get where this narrative is coming from. Someone comes up with it and all of a sudden it’s got to be true.
If the Flames feel that he’s the best player when they pick, then he’ll be a Flame. I don’t see him being there when they choose, someone will go off the board and take him earlier.

Agree with this.
In the top 10 were going to get an excellent prospect be it Tij or someone else.
Conny will be active again and hopefully some teams picking in the top 12(Buff, NJ. Ott) are open to moving their 1st round picks.

They can't finish 10th from the bottom anymore. They can also only move up a lot of spots.

He's the 9th ranked North American skater. And there are a couple international skaters ranked ahead of him. So if the Flames take him at 8-9 (if they don't move up in the lottery) and he tops out as a 2nd line winger, is it a failure? To say there wouldn't be more pressure on him in Calgary than NJ or BUF or Phili is false. He grew up in the shadow of his dad here and he would be held in comparison to Jarome here. Not so much in those other cities.

But if he tops out at a 1st line forward, the pick would be considered a win? Speculating on how he handles pressure is like guessing. You have absolutely no knowledge of the type of player he is, or how he handles pressure. He’s grown up in his dad’s shadow, his dad has coached his teams. 47 goals in his first full season, is quite the accomplishment and shouldn’t be overlooked just cause his dad played for the Flames. Conroy and company probably know Tij better than any other team, he’s grown up near the Flames rink. If I was picking 8th-9th and he was available, he’d be my choice, and I hope in 2 years they select his brother Jiggy so the iginlas can haunt the Oilers for another decade.

Pick him if he's there. After the success of the Tkachuks I could see him going before the Flames pick.

I honestly don’t think we’ll get a chance to pick him. Best case we win the lottery and pick Celebrini, trade Markstrom and Vans 1st to Salt Lake City for their 1st and take Tiggy there. Anderesson to Buffalo for their 1st and take Yakemchuk.

Salt Lake is going to spend some $ this year, it’s rumoured they’re looking for an upgrade in goal. Buffalo needs a right shot D to go with their strong left side. Both teams have been picking near the top of the draft for years and it’s time to add some quality vets to their groups.
Also cause it’s a rumour site and I like these rumours.

Kykkanen was an invitee to the Flames rookie camp last year, he’s having a great season with the Rockets. Does he get a invite back?

Both teams need better systems and coaching, not meh positional changes of players. Good luck with those wishes. Trades need 2 teams to agree and sometimes a 3rd party like when the player has a NMC. Such as when Markstrom has a full NMC.and the Coyotes have 2 affordable goalies with similar stats as the more expensive one. Be realistic and not Eklundistic.

Gonna be a good series. I wonder if the Knights can flip the switch and become a contender or if they are burnt from last year.

The West is pretty open this year.

I really hope Conroy is prepared to go 50% of Marky's salary, because thats what it will take for that Jersey 1st & possibly another piece. Truth be told I dont see Buffalo in the markstrom equation. The teams I do see there are Leafs/Avs/Wings. Maybe Ottawa but Conroy will demand Pinto back & no way he would touch Korpisalo & thats who Ottawa would want us to take back if they were adding their 1st. I really like Vladar & really want to see a Wolf Vladar tandem next year.

Andersson for Pinto & that 1st might be a possible, who knows. Would love to see Flames offer sheet Pinto lol. But then Turdeau & Freeb!tch may impose additional taxes on Alberta lol.

Conroy would absolutely take Korpisalo back. He has negative value right now and Conroy needs to think about the future. If Ottawa wants Markstrom and Calgary is willing to pay half his salary and take Korpisalo back, they could get a massive package back including the top ten pick. There's also a decent chance Korpisalo bounces back and could be the decent veteran guy the Flames need to platoon with Wolf for the next few years.

Ottawa also isn't trading Pinto. Doesn't make any sense if they think they're starting their competitive window. Andersson isn't worth a top ten pick by himself let alone a top ten pick plus Pinto.

I wonder if Toronto would be interested if Flames took Murrey as a salary dump.

Also, add Edmonton into the equation if Skinner falters.

Everyone will miraculously recover from their ailments and be ready to go. They’ve got more depth than the Oilers, 7 solid D, scoring options on every line, not sure if Hill is ready.
Oilers rely on a handful of players for the most part, secondary scoring is off and on, 1 decent D and a bunch of 4,5,6,&7 D.
The 2 teams are going to finish close in points and Vegas has had stars sitting on the Ltr. Knights in 6!

Ottawa has come out and said they can’t go with the same goalie tandem, maybe it’s Forsberg they ship to the Flames. Pinto just signed a contract so he’s not going anywhere. I could see Forsberg, and their 1st for Markstrom, and Vancouvers 1st.

Salt Lake has already said they will be adding some veterans to the lineup. New owner has deeper pockets and will want to make an impact. They’re ready to take a step, have a very good young team and a ton of draft picks. Conroy should be calling, Mangipani, Kuzmenko, Andersson, Coleman, Kadri should all be made available.

Markstrom has a NMC. He is not waiving it for OTT.
